Summary (6.83)
Cake Poker has proved its many critics wrong. Cake launched an
online poker room in late 2005 in a time where near everyone
believed that the online poker market was saturated and it would
be near impossible for a new poker room coming into the industry
to be successful.
Cake Pokers key to success was to create high quality software
and then bring on network partners to brand a version of their
poker room. The first poker room to use their brand was
sportsbook poker and as of
May 27, 2007 Cake now has a total of 10 different branded poker
rooms as part of their network.
Software and graphics (8)
Cake Poker has made their tables look somewhat realistic. They have lifelike avatars and a casino-like setting. There is a dealer in place at each table. The overall effect comes off nicely, without appearing cartoonish. You can take notes and color-code players. The lobby shows players seeing a flop, hands per hour, and the average pot for each table. The software isn't confusing at all, it's very straightforward and simply to navigate.
Ring game traffic (6.5)
Cake Poker has decent game traffic with about 850 players during peak hours.
Tournament traffic (4.5)
The tournaments lacks a big crowd, but there are plenty of freerolls and smaller buy in ($2-$5) tournaments available to help increase traffic on the site. There is little doubt that as the site grows they will add more tournaments with a wider variety of buyins. They offer short-handed tournaments a couple times a day, as well as plenty of sit n goes.
Game variety (4)
Cake Poker has your average game selection; Hold 'em (NL and
Limit), Omaha, and Stud however traffic is almost entirely
condensed to Texas Holdem
Rake (5)
Standard 5% up to $3, with the exception of micro-limit fixed limit games, which are capped at $1 in rake.
Soft competition (9)
The majority of the players are in this network come from slow
pay sportsbooks such as Sportsbook.com and BetUs.com (which are
all sites no educated winning gambler would use). This means
their site is filled with gamblers who just deposit and deposit
and rarely cash out. This makes for some amazingly soft games.
Note: The network partners have a history of slow pay and handle
their own banking. Cake has been at par or above when it comes
to timely payout.
Sign up bonus (7)
Currently a 100% up to $500 bonus. Players have 90 days (three months) to clear the bonus by earning Cake Points (CPs), which are worth $0.06 cents each. The bonus is released in $5 increments.
Loyalty bonus (6)
Cake Poker uses Cake Points to add up to "Cake Slices," which can be redeemed for tournament entries or merchandise in the Cake Poker store.
Promotions (6)
Cake Poker has great
promotions such as $10,000 leaderboard races, freerolls, bonuses
and much more.
Support (6)
Detailed FAQ section and prompt email support, but no phone support or live chat.
Financial security (7)
Still a rather new
network but they have brought on 10 different sites and should
be secure.
Deposit & Withdrawal options (6)
Deposit options:
Epassporte, Moneybookers, NETeller, FirePay, Visa, Mastercard.
Cash out options: Epassporte, Moneybookers, NETeller, FirePay.
